2024 Solidarity at Pride

About Pride:

Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots, which began on June 28, 1969, in New York City. Patrons of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, along with neighborhood residents, resisted a routine police raid, sparking six days of protest and igniting a wave of activism worldwide.

Pride Month honors and celebrates the organizing and activism of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit, and all individuals oppressed for their sexuality or gender identity/expression.

Pride affirms the dignity and visibility of queer people in all walks of life, advocating that everyone deserves to be treated with equity, fairness, and respect.

In the workplace, discrimination takes both an economic and emotional toll. A union contract remains the strongest protection LGBTQIA2S+ working people have to fight employment discrimination. Pride at Work, an AFL-CIO Constituency Group founded in 1994, promotes unionism in the LGBTQIA2S+ community and builds labor solidarity against anti-LGBTQIA2S+ bigotry.
